Traditional Services

The Special Programming for Achievement Network (SPAN) of Etowah County receives referrals for students between the ages of 12-17 from the Juvenile Court System. While the program was originally designed to receive youth who are on probation, it also works with area school systems to take students who just need a second chance. Students can go through Juvenile Probation Office and/or school counselor to be referred into the program.

SPAN guides each student in setting individualized academic and behavior goals.

Academic goals consist of returning to public school in or near their correct grade or earning the equivalent of a high school diploma. (GED certificate) Students work at their own pace and receive one-on-one computer assisted instructions from teachers.

Behavioral goals are set and achieved through individual and family counseling. Students have a one-hour group session once a day. The purpose is to provide the students with a forum to work on daily social skills needed to succeed in SPAN and in life.
